Summer is just around the corner, so I’ve been on a mission to create the perfect smoothie bowl since they are just so refreshing and delicious! After a ton of trial and error, I think I finally found the proper formula! While there are definitely many different ways to go about creating a smoothie bowl, I found that this method works the best in creating the perfect smoothie bowl for me 🙂 So here it goes…
Step 1. Add Fruit
You can mix whatever combination of fruit that you like, but try to stick to about 1.5 cups of fruit in total (not including banana—I’ll explain more in Step 2). Here’s a list of a few different fruits that are great for smoothie bowls!
Bonus Tip #1. Use frozen fruit!
Step 2. Add Banana (Or Not)
Banana makes the smoothie extra creamy, but it also adds a strong banana flavor so I included it as an optional step. It really just depends on what you’re craving.
If you do decide to add banana, I recommend adding 1/2 or 1 whole medium sized banana. You may need to change the liquid quantity if adding banana. Start with 1/2 cup of liquid and add 1/8-1/2 cups more if necessary.
Bonus Tip #2: Use a frozen banana. Peel and slice fresh bananas, place them in a ziplock baggie, and freeze so they’re ready whenever you’re craving a smoothie 🙂
Step 3. Choose a Liquid
There are many different liquids to choose from, but I personally use 1% lactose free milk. However, any of the following liquid options will work as well 🙂
If you choose to use some form of milk, use no more than 1 cup in total, but add it to the blender 1/2 cup at a time (add 1/2 cup, blend, add more and blend until desired consistency). I find that about 1 cup of milk works if I don’t use banana and 3/4 cup works if I do use banana. If you choose to add water, juice, or coconut water instead of milk, you may need less liquid.
Bonus Tip #3: Choose a liquid high in protein to make the bowl more filling.
Step 4. Toppings, Toppings, Toppings
This step is by far the easiest and most fun. Choose your favorite toppings from the following list and enjoy your creation!
Bonus Tip #4: Chocolate chips and unsweetened shredded coconut make everything taste better 🙂
